New Berlin residents will have another local full-service fitness center option starting this Spring (2022). Originally scheduled to open in late 2020/early 2021, the economic turmoil created by coronavirus policies delayed completion by over a year.

The 62,000 square foot, former Pick-n-Save building, at the corner of Sunnyslope Road and National Avenue was sold for $3.25 million in December 2019. Notable construction work began in the fall of 2021 with work on the parking lot and building exterior observable to motorists from the road.
VASA Fitness shared the following details with NBTA:
AMENITIES:
The New Berlin facility will include all of the standard amenities of other VASA Fitness clubs including a basketball court, pool, steam room, sauna, a recovery area with massage chairs and infrared beds, InBody scanner, group fitness, free weights, machines, performance lifting, functional turf, group fitness, STUDIO RED (HIIT) and STUDIO FLOW (infrared yoga) and more.
HOURS:
VASA will be open daily Monday through Saturday 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Senior Citizens:
VASA’s New Berlin location will participate in the Silver Sneakers program.
Membership Rates:
VASA memberships start at $9.99 per month for “Basic” which gets members access to the cardio deck, free weights, functional turf, and performance lifting area at one club. The next level costs $21.99 per month for the “Fitness” membership which gets members access to all VASA clubs plus unlimited group fitness classes, the pool/steam/sauna areas, the massage and recovery lounge, and basketball court. The third membership is called “Studio” and for $39.99 it includes everything from “Fitness” plus unlimited Studio classes like STUDIO RED and STUDIO FLOW, unlimited InBody scans, and includes the Burn & Earn Rewards program. More information about what is included with each membership level is available at https://vasafitness.com/join/.

No tanning beds at this location

Well thats bs. It says tanning needs on their website. That’s really annoying.

I was hoping they’d have tanning beds as well. For people who might consider switching from (example) Xperience, they’d have to sacrifice the tanning beds. That said, LifeTime Fitness doesn’t have tanning beds either. Not sure about Princeton Club or Planet Fitness.

I don’t think so. We will double check with VASA. From prior conversations with health club executives in the past I’ve been told the usage per square foot for running tracks is cost-prohibitive for most commercial clubs. Stated differently, its a lot of space required that is only used by a small number of people.

There will not be a running track, just a large ‘cardio deck’ with treadmills, etc.

Showers available? Is there sign-up for certain amenities? If so, what would the time frame be?

What day in spring is opening day? Can we get memberships now?

“This Spring” was all VASA shared with us. I suspect because with supply chain issues and perhaps weather, they aren’t able to pin down an opening date yet. Memberships not available yet. We will update as soon as we know more.

This question was asked but no answer given, What is the membership level for silver sneakers. The Y has no restrictions to the pool, track, classes, etc.

Sorry, not sure of the answer to that question. I will be reaching back out to VASA soon for updates and I’ll inquire.

Will the pool be chlorine or the salt water reverse osmosis system? Indoor chlorine is very rough on the skin. Princeton is chlorine and Lifetime is salt water reverse osmosis.

Besides Silver Sneakers, do they also participate in the Renew Active program for seniors?

Not really sure getting involved with VASA is a good thing. The advertising of the facility is quite deceiving, seems they are more interested in getting your personnal info then anything else

What advertising is deceiving? Having gone through the membership process at this and other gyms in the area, the process at VASA seems very standard. We encourage people to do their own research and come to their own purchase decisions. NBTA has no financial incentive in VASA fitness. We do believe it represents a fantastic improvement from an abandoned grocery store who’s owner did zero to maintain the property nor keep sidewalks clear in the winter.
