The New Berlin Taxpayers Alliance has endorsed Matthew Arend for the New Berlin School Board election on April 7th 2026.
Too often in school board campaigns “Taxpayers” are ignored when it comes to public education. NBTA was quick to notice Matthew Arend views taxpayers as a co-equal stakeholder in School District business. With or without kids in the schools, the Taxpayers pay for school facilities and staff.
In discussions with Matt he shared his view that Students, Parents, and Taxpayers are the primary driver of School District policy and they would be the focus of his time of service on the School Board.
Matthew is also a CPA with extensive experience in finance, budgeting, and process improvements. This is the kind of fiscal leadership New Berlin Schools will benefit from and is worthy of our endorsement.

In addition to his strong qualifications for sound fiscal management Matthew Arend was also willing to stand for common sense on ‘social’ issues that may likely come before the school board in the near future.
Across the country and here in the Midwest, the disturbing trend of biological boys, identified as “transgender”, being allowed to use girls bathrooms/locker rooms and competing in girls sports is becoming more common. This infringes on the rights of all female students to have privacy and safety. For female student athletes, at a minimum this takes away opportunities and the ‘equal playing field’ in girls sports. In some cases it even puts the safety of our girls in jeopardy, as evidenced by multiple news reports of female athletes being seriously injured by males competing against them on other teams.
We posed this question to Mr. Arend and he replied: “Boys should not be playing on girls sports teams or in girls bathrooms/locker rooms, and I will do everything in my power as member of the school board to prevent this from occurring.“
What a refreshingly common sense position to take!
Voters should be aware NBTA posed the same question to the democrat-favored candidate Amanda Peterson who is also running for school board. We asked Ms. Peterson her position on biological males in female sports/bathrooms on her Facebook page and she hid the question from view. We emailed Ms. Peterson to give her a second chance to respond for this article and she again declined to respond.

The Democrat platform has consistently put the preferences of biological male ‘transgender students’ above the rights of all female students. NBTA doesn’t believe this is right for New Berlin and is another reason we don’t believe Amanda Peterson is right for our School Board.
